Spilled Latix paint after painting a door :(

KMS Woodworks on Apr 21, 2013The best way to fix this would be to scrape out the painted area with a small "grout saw" and then re-apply new grout. Hopefully you know what color of grout was used.Helpful Reply

Therese C on Apr 21, 2013If the tile floor and grout are both white, lay a bleach soaked sponge over the area to lighten it as much as possible, then use white (or whatever color the grout is) paint and a small paintbrush to go over the spot.Helpful Reply

House Boy, Inc. on Apr 22, 2013Sounds like the paint has gotten below the grout (into it). I say why fight city hall. You just need to buy some grout coloring made by mapaei and brush it into the grout. I have used this product to change the color of grout. It works really well. It's a liquid you brush in with an old toothbrush.Helpful Reply

Bridget Casey on Apr 22, 2013Thank you for all your ideas...I have used Goof Off & it just lightened the color. If I was handy I would love to use the grout saw~but I think I would make matters worse sooooo I will probably paint over & see what happens! Most of the paint went under the drier. I am in good shape unless Martha S comes to visit!!!lol oh, the alcohol did lighten it up a lot ;)BridgetHelpful Reply

Leslie D on Apr 22, 2013I'm with @House Boy, Inc. , I've used the grout paint before with great results. Hopefully you can find a matching color, or just find an alternate color that works with your tile and paint all of the grout in that area. A toothbrush to scrub in the paint and a rag and water to clean up as you go is all that is needed. Use a grout sealer to protect the painted grout when finished (they have small bottles with a brush on the end to apply the sealer at the big box stores. It's a bit of hands and knees work, but the results were great when we used it.Helpful Reply

Pamela Walker on Apr 22, 2013Bridget, you can use a grout saw it is really easy. It is kinda like a tooth brush for grout LOL Just go to Home Depot (I work there LOL) and ask one of them to help you and they will walk you through the whole process. If you paint it with the grout paint it will just work it's way back out again. And I bet the whole process will cost around $20.00 Good luck, but you don't need it cause it is easy peasy LOLHelpful Reply

The Paint Wagon on Apr 23, 2013Have you tried just leaving water puddled on it for awhile and scrubbing? Paint thinner is mainly for oil-based paints and Goof-off is mainly for adhesives. Latex is a water-based paint and therefore water-soluble. It sounds simple, but sometimes it is.Helpful Reply

Queen Bee WorkShop on Apr 24, 2013Bridget, before you move...or saw it out...there is a product called Lift Off ..Latex Based Paint Remover from Home Depot or Lowes....this is the best product I have ever found for removing dried paint on anything....the trick is to let it set on the grout because it is so porous, and then us a stiff bristled brush.Helpful Reply

Donna turnbow on Apr 28, 2013I read somewhere that rubbing alcohol does the trick. even on old paint. So When I pulled up my carpet and found lots of paint on the floor I tried it. I soaked a rag in it and let it set a few minutes. It works. Even on old paint spatters .Helpful Reply

Therese C on Apr 28, 2013Bridget...if you don't feel comfortable with a grout saw, go to the dollar or beauty store near you and get an electric nail filer. (lind of reminds me of a dremel) and run it over the grout. It really couldn't be much easier. Once you are done, put a new tip on the grinder, sit back, file your nails, and admire your handy work...LOLHelpful Reply
