How to Age Brass the Easy Way

If you've got shiny brass fixtures anywhere in your home, and you feel like you need to get out the sunglasses because it's so blindingly over the top, here's a super-easy way to get the mellow look of aged brass for under $10.
You will need 1 tube of Rub’N Buff in Spanish Copper, a soft cloth, and a small, stiff paintbrush (please see label for complete instructions before use):
1. Make sure surfaces are clean first. Use in well-ventilated area. If working on a piece like my headboard, you may want to use painter’s tape where the brass meets the painted surfaces to avoid smearing it onto the rest of the piece.
2. Using a soft cloth to apply, squeeze small amount onto cloth. Lightly wipe the Rub’N Buff on, being sure not to allow glaringly visible streaks to remain and making sure you get it into all of the crevices. You’ll want to use a small, stiff paint brush to get into those recessed areas.
3. After allowing initial coating to dry slightly, go back and layer on more Rub’N Buff, using more of a dabbing motion that will blend away any remaining streakiness.

Can you use this system for tub/shower faucets? I am trying to sell my house and trying to get a 'trendy' and 'new' look.

Mary (Cottage B at Home ~ Vintage Country Living) on Mar 07, 2017Thank you for your question. As mentioned in earlier responses, Rub 'N Buff is not a waterproof finish. Therefore, I would NOT recommend using it for faucets or in bathrooms, other than perhaps hardware on cabinet doors. Sorry to disappoint...Good luck in selling your house!
