Removing adhesive from peel and stick floor tiles on fireplace

Question

I have a second hand a electric fireplace with a wood surround and mantel. Someone covered the mantel with peel and stick floor tiles. I have removed the tiles and now there is  very sticky adhesive all over the top. What can I use to remove the adhesive and not wreck the wood ?

You might try Goo Gone. I don't think it would harm the wood but it probably says on the bottle. If it isn't strong enough then I would ask someone at Lowes or anyone that sells tile.

Try using anything of an oily substance,WD40, cooking oil, baby oil. Leave on the surface long enough to penetrate then wipe off the residue with a cloth and clean.

The wood is probably sealed so goo gone should work. Wash with some soap afterward to remove the goo gone residue and smell. Another option would be Vaseline if it is just a stickiness. It may take a little longer but for sure will not harm the wood. Either way you will need to let your remover sit a while and wipe with paper towels for easier clean up. It may take more than one application/removal round.

I learned from a nurse that rubbing alcohol removes glue residue. Use a small alcohol prep pads to gently remove the glue residue, then follow up with some Murphy Oil Soap to clean the area, and finally give it a good wax job.

Depending on what type of tile it was , If none of the above work, try one of the heat blowers. They're like a hair dryer but blow like 1500 º hot air n use a puddy knife to scrape

I have tried all the suggestions above except the heat blower. None of the other suggestions worked, This type of adhesive is vicious to remove, Will try the heat and scaper.

PB Blaster took commercial tile adhesive off of a wood floor for me. Bought it at Lowe's. It is a penetrating catalyst, stronger than WD-40. A mechanic I know recommended using it. Spray on, wait 5-10 minutes scrape off with a plastic edge, like old credit card, smooth back edge of plastic knife. Mopped as usual, and could never tell it had been there.

I now use PB Blaster instead of WD-40 for, well everything.
