Barbara AgrestaBarbara on Feb 05, 2016When leaves start turning yellow, water only as needed until foliage dies. Maintain amaryllis indoors or bury pot in semi-shade outside when frost danger has passed. Dig up just before frost. Let dormant amaryllis remain dry through summer. Cut off dry yellow foliage just above the bulb. Repot every 2-3 years.Helpful Reply

Lu Schmidt on Feb 08, 2016My Amaryllis usually blooms late February or early March. After blooming, I cut off the flower stalk and keep it inside until danger of frost is gone outside. I then put pot and all outside for the summer, occasionally watering it with a fertilizer in the water. I put it in a some what shady location (behind a small evergreen) so that the sun does not burn the leaves. In the fall, I bring it inside, stop all watering, and let it dry up. I cut off all leaf stalks in November whether they are totally dried or not. While inside, I place it in a darker area until I see the first sign of growth. If I haven't seen anything by the end of December, I bring it into a light area, and start to give it a little water until it starts to grow. The first thing that comes out of the bulb is the flower bud, if it is going to bloom. The bulb likes to be crowded, don't repot in a big pot use a pot that is only slightly bigger. I brush off some of the dirt and replace it with some new potting mix. (Wisconsin)Helpful Reply
