Carole on Dec 29, 2013Did you clean the chairs first and perhaps give them a rub with some sandpaper before applying the undercoat? There needs to be a perfectly clean and oil free surface and a 'key' for the paint to adhere to. The other thing is that many people paint over undercoat or do a second top coat without waiting the required amount of time in between. Most paints although they can be 'touch dry' in 30 mins, need to cure - which means the paint needs time (sometimes a week or so) to become as hard and durable as it can be, before applying more coats of paint. If this is not the problem then if you used the correct type of paint for painting metal, then sorry, I don't know why it would chip off either!
