How to make a large vase, at least 3 feet

How would I go about making a very large vase, at least 3'?

    I glued an urn shaped vase to the top of an 18" tall table lamp base. it is about 26" total height.

    tall, skinny trashcan..painted or paper/fabric wrapped? Wrapped carpet tube? (if it needs to be waterproof, line it with a heavy duty garbage bag) Terra cotta (or metal) flue pipe - with something waterproof inside if it needs to hold fresh flowers.

    I have some compound mud and I'm all for recycling. I just want it to be tall and maybe shaped differently as it goes up.
