I live in an old house. At this point in my life, I don't want to do an expensive redo of my UGLY blue metal kitchen cabinets. How can I update them without spending a boat load of cash??

Well I've always said that Rustoleum paint will cover absolutely anything and I've always found it to be true.

Agreed the Rust-O-leum is the most inexpensive way to go.

I'm about to paint my old blue metal sink using Rustoleum. You can get tips on their website. I'll post before & after pics.

Hi There, Yep the Rustoleum paint would be the best way to go. Need to wash the Cupboards really good and Rinse, might have to lightly sand to rough up the finish, Then wipe them off really well, Tape off areas of the kitchen with plastic Drop cloths, so the over spray doesn't go all over... unless you don't mind repainting the Ceiling, Countertops or the Floor... You can use spray paint or Brush on. ! ! They have Texture Brushes/Rollers that look like wood? or use a Rag finish etc...

If you own this, you have to look at resale value. But if you want to live pretty for now. Spray paint your .. (you know what off ) with Rustoleum. But prep it 'correctly' especially the final wipe clean phase..first and learn how to 'spray it evenly' maybe with a couple coats or brush on if you want it to look good for a while. Research the best techniques the manufacturer gives, and believe me, they know their own product. Follow the directions.

I agree that proper preparation of your cabinets is essential to a good finished product. I also think Rustoleum paint is a wonder cure for many things! Just make sure you can use that type of oil-based paint in your kitchen. In some states, it's actually against code to use any type of oil-based paint in your kitchen area. This type of paint is great because it will stick to literally anything and dry with a nice hard finish making future cleanings a lot easier. Good luck!
