KMS Woodworks on Apr 29, 2013what works great is a "chicken tractor", it is basically a small portable rig that you can move around to allow them access to fresh "pasture". This link covers one of the better designs I have seen. http://kerrcenter.com/publications/intern-reports/chicken_tractor.pdfHelpful Reply

Jaime C on Apr 29, 2013I started w/chickens only a couple of years ago and I found this site that is like my Bible for Chickens. They have a whole section devoted to coops and pictures and everything. Some of them have step by step instructions. http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops You also might think about checking Craigslist unless you just want to build one, a lot of times you can find people who want to get rid of an old storage building and they are really perfect for a coop. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Apr 30, 2013Get a few large dog crates. Gives them room to move around and most can be taken apart for easy cleaning. Also can be closed to lock them in when doing other chores inside the coop. To build your own coop use 1/2 inch plastic PVC pipe. Stick one end into the ground and bend it into a half circle and stick the other end in the ground. Creating a half pipe shape. Do this every two feet or so until you have the size of the coop you want. Then take chicken wire and plastic wire ties used for electrical wiring and wrap over the top of the pipes using the ties to hold the wire into place. Bend the wire into the coop about six inches and then place a treated wood board on top of the bottom nailing the wire to prevent animals from pushing under the coop to get at the birds. For a door simply construct a small frame out of wood with a plywood door and hinges and wire tie it into the end. Cover the rest of the end of coop with wire and your done. Quick easy and fast. Few hours and your done.Helpful Reply
