Turn a Thrift Store Bargain Into a Kitchen Island

I needed a kitchen island that would also work as a workspace for my tiny 500 square foot home. My budget is tight and Kitchen islands are pricey, even second hand.
Besides DIY is what I do, so I started looking for dressers that could be up-cycled into the island of my dreams...
After hitting up four thrift stores and looking at a dozen or moreI dressers, I knew this was the one!
The price was great, the 1970's look was just what I wanted but it was too long to fit in my kitchen, so we had to cut off 6 inches. To see exactly how we did this check out my fun video tutorial below...

This is episode #2 in my tiny house makeover series on Youtube. I want to share how to decorate and entire house on the smallest budget imaginable. When I moved into my house last Dec the house was completely empty, I'm going to DIY all of it, nothing new, even the silverware will be from the thrift store.
The cubbies, are where the drawers used to be but no longer exist because we cut off the end.
I found the butcher block top for a bargain price and stained the top with a water based product called Dark and Decrepit Liquid Patina. check out my blog post for links to all of the supplies and more details.
I love the way it turned out! I used only 8 ounces of DIY Paint in a color called Hey Sailor and highlighted the trim with a color called Kissing Booth!
DIY paint has just nine non toxic ingredients, it dries lightning fast, it's very easy to use and usually covers in one coat. Check out my blog to find a retailer near you.
In my next video, i'm going to do something to the bar stools and try to cover up the particle board that used to be the back of the dresser! What do you think I should do?

I have a mid century modern bedroom set, but the dresser is too long for my bedroom but PERFECT for the kitchen! I need a cabinet/workspace in there between the end wall next to my stove to my fridge.....this is gonna be perfect! LOVE the color too! I've got ugly upper cabinets that I'm taking down because they just get cramped with too much stuff (out of sight out of mind type mentality in my home). I'm going to do open shelving so now I can stain the shelves to match the top of this dresser and do all bottom cabinets and bottom of dresser the same! You're a doll to share this....it's exactly what I needed to think about and do! And only paint and stain needed to buy!
