Pond pump size -- need to pump 12-15,000 gph with HIGH HEAD

KMS Woodworks on Feb 26, 2012Its not uncommon for some pumps to over come 15 to 20 feet of lift...the issues have to due with balancing your target flows 12 to 15 k is a LOT of water. When I worked in Biotech we had pumps that could supply 100 K plus flows at 90 psi in 4" lines. Big pumps eat a lot of juice and are pricey...you can find something but its going to cost you both up front and in electricity.Helpful Reply

Surrounding Landscapes Inc. on Feb 26, 2012I have not calculated your numbers but could you have a bottom bog or pool and half way up your creek build another pool? this would require 2 pumps, one to pump from lower pool to upper pool and another pump that pumps water from the upper pool to the top waterfall. This may help I have seen several built this way.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Feb 27, 2012Sorroundings idea would required 2 (big pumps) with the added expense of the second pool and the electric to run both pumps....Two big pumps in series would have to have the same big flow rates...but two pumps in parallel may be the better option...two 6 k pumps could provide the total 12 k needed...Helpful Reply

Hoffner Nursery & Landscaping on Feb 28, 2012I would suggest contacting Jim at Pondtastic 407-601 POND he specializes in ponds and has many years experience. It is one thing to read the specifications of a pumps flow rate and head high abilities and another to know how that will look in your waterfall. They are on 441 in Orlando.Helpful Reply
