And I thought I'd seen it all. This is so awesome. -
Thanks Miriam! :) -
This is so sweet. I love it. How do you prepare and plant in it? How do you keep them from drying out? I can see this as a good "Not have to bend over or get on the ground saver"! -
Very cool. Is that a dwarf cultivar of Cryptomeria? -
Bernice, it's really easy to take care of! You do have to water almost every other day though. You might could add water polymers in the soil to help from drying out so quick. I used a plastic form of chicken wire for the basket with landscape fabric. Sedums would do great in this also...we are looking for more chairs to try that! :) 4Seasons, it is a dwarf of the Cryptomeria! It's the globosa nana! Good eye! -
That is adorable. I love the idea of a more water-thrifty version with sedums. -
I have a friend or two that have done this..... if you have the saw to make the round cut it is easy. I would make sure I coated the chair with a good seal though if you want to keep it outside. I thought it was funny when a friend tried to move the pot to sit down in the chair..... lol. -
I have one...I picked up an old $5 rummage sale chair that had a ratty looking rattan seat , scuffed it up, dry brushed it to look shabby, cut out the rattan, placed a flower pot into the hole and filled with ivy, and impatience. It adorns my garden and or front porch. Add a couple more pots of flowers by it and hang a big old brimmed hat on the back...love it! -
@Diana, sounds really cool. I'd love to see a picture! -
I think I have one...just to find it! ha -
I've done quite a few of these!! They are soooo fun and really pretty! We even hung one on the wall!-

Have a chair to do this very thing in the Spring! -
Love the idea!! Just updated our dining room so have some rather beat up chairs left from the old set. -
Add whimsey and color to any garden. Not difficult to do. -
that gives me an idea !!! thanks !! -
Bernice, you can also just sink a pot in the hole - I've covered the bottom of the pot with moss and it looks great. Since I leave mine out year round - to use with a green arrangement during the winter - it has taken a beating and I was just thinking that it might have to be retired this year. -
@Evelyn..what do you mean, you cover the pot bottom with moss? @Lynette....the purple on the chair is awesome! super color for fun in the garden , where did you hang it?(on the wall?, what wall?) -
Sphagnum moss - dab plain ol white glue on the pot, stick some of the moss and it's good to go. -
Done this several yrs ago. Ready to do again over to my daughters. Making a new flower bed for her. -
I forgot to mention that I use rocking chairs - just retired the old one and got a new one FOR FREE on Freecycle. This one I'm just going to arrange some pots on the seat after I decide what color to paint it. -
Love this idea, I do have old garden chairs that I ca used... thanks for the tips!
