is it too early to aerate a bermuda grass lawn? it's already greening up, so why not... do I have to take temperature?

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Feb 28, 2012At this point, unless we have some really weird cold weather hit us, it will not do any damage to aerate now. It will encourage root growth by allowing more oxygenation to the root zone. However~ if you do, I strongly advise applying a pre -emergent immediately after because you will be inviting germination of weeds as well. Otherwise you can wait until the Bermuda is actively growing (Mayish) and aerate then put down your late spring pre-emergent. Most golf courses started aerating their bent grass courses this week.Helpful Reply
