I did. Hardest part was deciding on the color. I love mine! Research what you want and decide all the variables, i.e. the edge you want, the sink and faucet. Get all the discounts you can find. I did the back splash myself which saved a ton of money.

Hi Tina, Depending on where you are located, I would try to locate local stores before you approach big box stores. Local stores may offer much more variety and color, also you will get a better idea of pricing. Make sure to ask for supply and install price. I would recommend you sketch the layout and measurements prior to your visits. Then before making your final decision check out the big box stores and compare the prices at that time. Good Luck

I used Lowe's as they are the only one in my area. Yes, you will meet with the counter top personnel and they will have an installer come out and measure the area. There is a cost for that service, but I don't remember how much it was. Less than $75. That amount is taken back off when you actually order your counter tops from them. My process was a little screwy because I initially intended on getting laminate. Then I realized the quartz was really not that much more expensive. I think that the Lowe's personnel can measure for laminate, but the actual installer has to measure for quartz. I ordered mine without a back lip because I wanted the back splash to come all the way down. Mine was on sale and came with the sink as a bonus. I had to buy the faucet. I'm sure different Lowe's are different as far as personnel, but mine was great. Once ordered it took about 10 days for them to get it installed.

Some times you can do your leg work on line. Put your measurements in and they will give you a free estimate. Here in Tennessee they will come to your home and give you a free estimate and they do a template. The 1/4 inch bevel is the least expensive edge and they have samples of all the edges available at Home Depot, etc.. You will also need an under counter sink so factor that in. Some provide a plumber and some don't to hook up your sink/faucets so factor that cost in if you do not have anyone knowledgeable I have only had granite counter tops. Once you get one estimate you may use that as a basis for other estimates. I don't know about quartz but you can get some good deals w/remnants but you need to ask for them up front. My entire kitchen and 2 baths are granite remnants and none is pieced. Good luck!

I think there are online programs you can use to "test" different colors and styles. Lowes and Home Depot websites may have them. It can at least help you narrow down what it is you really want.
  • Why would you want to use a big box store?? You are paying them to be the middle man. Go to a stoneyard yourself and see what they have. They also have pre-fab quartz countertops that come in 8'X22 lengths w/a finished edge. All you need is a fabricator to cut it for you measurements. I've done this many times. Save money and do it yourself. Find a place that has the pre-fab ones (they cost about 450 bucks or so). Where do you live? if you are near a big city, you can find a fabricator to come out and measure your countertops and make a template. He is the one who will cut the stone and fit it for you. They are usually more expensive than the actual stone. A slab of granite or quartz will run in the 1000-2000 range depending on range and color. The pre-fabs come in about 15-20 set colors and run between 450-800 dollars. They have all the basic colors. go to any basic stone yard or granite yard and they will have both the giant slabs and the pre-fabricated countertops.

I checked out Home Depot and Lowes the went to a countertop company and they told me they do all of Lowes work. They were actually cheaper than than the big box stores. So check out small companies and compare.
