Pallet Wood Bottle Cap Catcher

Easy
Easy to make cap catcher using free pallet wood for indoors or out!
The husband decided to purchase a bottle opener for our new deck one day, yes he did. Attached to a post, sure it did its job, but the caps kept eluding our grasp. What to do? Build a cap catcher using free pallet wood!
I didn't really do much planning, per usual. I have too many stories about that....But using free pallet wood slats and a bottle as a guide, I cobbled together a catcher in less than an hour. I started with a background slat and trimmed up some other pieces.
Did a dry fit test to see how it all was working...(come read the details about this and all sorts of other fun projects over on my blog Flipping the Flip at humboldtartdept.blogspot.com!)
Using my favorite glue and a few galvanized roofing nails for affect, I assembled the cap catching box. What's my favorite glue? Come by the blog and find out!
Rifling through the stashes of random hardware I own, I found a small hinge for the bottom flap. I also drilled drainage holes so rain wouldn't collect in the bottom.
Lastly, a hook and eye to keep the bottom shut and for easy cap dumping.
Once back outdoors, I realized the bottom wouldn't open easy if I attached the background slat directly to the post so I bumped it out with a few pieces of pallet wood. Not the look I was going for but hey, that's what I get for not planning, right?
And there it... oops, there's Finn again.
And there it is! And nope, this went up just as it got too cold outside so we haven't even tested it yet! We will though -- hurry spring!
But hey, did you guys read my wall mount Ikea knock-off television console for less than $30 post? You should! But there's an update to it in this particular blog post, a real scare, so be sure to come on by by clicking on the link below!

Unique Creations By Anita on Aug 31, 2016Fantastic design idea, I made one but to it to much hassle to empty so does not get used. The hook at the bottom is very clever. Will have to go and rebuild mine. Thanks for sharing

I was and I did but I made a change to mine instead of the box I used a mesh bag from some grapes I got at the store.
