    Sherrie,I think if you plant them on the northeast side of your home they would not get the hot afternoon sun. Here in western Oregon we can grow them anywhere just so they get some sun sometime during the day.

    Looks like Peonies! I had to move mine into the sun, they weren't blooming well. Now, their HUGE! Beautiful baby...
