KMS Woodworks on Mar 08, 2012Clay...one thing to remember when tossing old smoke detectors is that they contain a small amount of radioactive material ...I believe it is Polonium. Most larger communities have special hazardous material drop off sites.Helpful Reply

Clay B on Mar 08, 2012KMS, didn't know that. Thank you. I put it in the trash, but I think It's still there, I will check. I know about CFL Bulbs however, I take those to Home Depot/Lowes and dispose of there.Helpful Reply

ElectraMedics Electrical Services on Mar 08, 2012The interconnected feature is nice, but the batteries don't last very long so buy the best battery you can find. The best way to get interconnected smoke detectors is to buy 110v wireless smoke detectors. Although they still require a wire to them to get a power feed the "wireless" part just does the interconnecting function. That way you know you always have protection and a battery back up for when you lose power. That being said kudos to you for making your home and family safer.Helpful Reply

Clay B on Mar 08, 2012I used the battery that came with it, but will replace with those new "10 year" batteries when it needs to be replaced. I have equipment in the garage I always worry about, now my mind is more at ease knowing a smoke detector is there. I've also got Carbon Monoxide detectors in the bedrooms, plug into the wall, with battery backup also. I've got water detectors under my well pump in garage, plus behind the washing machine. I would like to get the washing machine alarm-type that turns off the water valve also, I know I should turn off all the time, but I don't, those are expensive, but someday I will do it. I do have good Stainless Steel Braided hoses though.Helpful Reply
