My Pergola on my backyard patio

We installed an aluminum white pergola kit ordered from Lowes to our back patio when we lost our two patio shade trees. We love how it is maintenance free and gives us all the shade we need.

This is fabulous! Exactly what I've been wanting for our back deck. Did you have Lowes install it, or DIY?? (My hubby and I don't play well together when working on difficult projects...) lol.

Bonnie, You can order this from Lowes any size that you need and various column designs and edge designs. It comes with 50 % shade with lattice, but I ordered 60% (my max for snow load in my area of Illinois). It was delivered and I put it up with my young and cute, handy dandy handyman. Hubby could have helped but was at work. You would have to hire someone to put it up, but it is easy and we did it in a day after we had built the brick column bases to raise it up higher.

Hello to you too! Yes, we have two exits. One to the north through the arbor and one to the south on a sidewalk that leads to the side and front of the house. You can also walk over the bridge that is over our dry creekbed.

Christina H, here are the pictures that I assume you wanted me to post.
    • Standing under pergola looking north with entry out into the grass and gardens through arbor.
    • Standing under the patio pergola looking south. This shows the dry creek bed and bridge that we walk on to exit to the grass and back gardens.
    • Standing under the patio pergola looking south to the new garage addition. You can see the sidewalk that leads to the bridge or around to the side driveway between the two garages.

How much upkeep is needed for a yard like that?

What was the costs of the kit (and size), if you don't mind me asking? My patiob desperately needs some shade but coving the patio looks to costs between $6-8,000 here in Atlanta area.

Nick, we love to work in the yard so with perennials, it's really just the spring clean up and a bit of maintenance with any deadheading and keeping it all looking fresh.

Catherine, our pergola is 14 ft. x 16ft. and cost $2700 for the kit with 60% shade ordered from lowes.

This is really lovely! You say it's aluminum and not vinyl? It looks fantastic! Was it difficult to install?

Kelly, I did much research before I selected a pergola. Vinyl moves a bit from hot to cold temps and can sag. I wanted maintenance free other than power washing, so I chose white painted aluminum. It was a kit sold in a special order book at Lowes. You can pick any size, and have a selection of various columns and end cut looks. Then select how much shade you need. You have to find out your regions snow load (they can tell you) to know the percent of shade you will be able to get from the ...»
top. It comes with 50% shade lattice tubes. I could have 60% max in western Illinois. We had a 22" snow two years ago and the pergola held up great. Anyway, you order it...mine is a 14' x 16' and I think it cost only $2700. They deliver it and you just follow the instructions. We needed our raised higher because of being placed on a sunken patio, so one day was to build the brick pillar stands to hold the columns on and then the next day me and my contractor put it up. So it's really a one day project...not difficult but I had my contractor to figure out the placement for the columns and I just had to screw in about a million screws!

Sounds fantastic and The wood would cost that much I am sure. Plus harder installation. Thanks!
