Creating an Entry Way

Over the past several months, I've been working to create apretty and functional entryway for my family in our home.
Our very small entry area lacks a coat closet, so I added a coat rack – before we had our coat rack, we used to just throw our coats overthe nearby bannister!
I also added a mini bookcase that I already had on hand andadded a bin for each family member – now everyone has a place to stash theirshoes and keep them out of sight! The bookcase also gives my husband and I aplace to put our keys and other things.
Next to out coat and shoe area is a small mirror for onelast touchup before leaving the house!
Because my daughters and I often have a mad rush in themorning to get them to school on time, there is a small clock to the right ofthe door. The clock has been very useful in keeping us on schedule!
I also made a DIY picture frame dry erase board -- I placed it next to the front door to remind myself of what needs to be done for the day before leaving the house!
I just added a very pretty "Home Sweet Home" wall décor aboveour coat rack. I got it from web retailer, Lot 26 Studio. I love the way it looks and it is a nice welcome when my family returns home after our daily activities.
The only problem I have is the small square of vinyl flooring by the front door. It is so tiny, and it is difficult for us all to fit on that tiny square (and not put our feet on the wall to wall carpeting beside it) when putting on and taking off our shoes. I'd love to replace all the flooring downstairs with hardwood floors, but don't think we could do that just yet. I am debating whether to put tile down by the front door and extend our little entryway area a bit so we have more room for our mini front hall "mudroom." I would love to receive suggestions on what to do!
