I installed the diode on the doorbell it doesn't do the hold chime unless you hold the button down.

I just purchased a door bell with 10 different chimes. I at first didn't know about the diode. I finished the install and the chimes only worked when the button was pushed, losing the total chime. I reread the directions and noticed I didn't install the diode. Once installed...the door bell worked perfectly. Maybe there's a possibility the diode was installed wrong. It should work. If not, Radio Shack sells them for cheap.

When you installed the diode, did you make sure the diode was pointing toward the chime? If you look closely at the diode it will usually have a silver end on one side. Make sure that's pointing toward the chimes.

Need more info. A diode is like a one-way valve for electricity. I dont understand how you would use it on a doorbell.

Happened when I replaced mine...I had the diode in backwards :). It works fine now.

I had a similar situation to Sharyn Diaz. One side of the diode slipped off the screw when I attached the doorbell plate to the door frame.
