any outdoor rugs really mildew proof and was off with a hose?

KMS Woodworks on Mar 21, 2012I have seen some decent results with the braided poly. But here in our "arid" west mildew is not as much of an issue. Power washing the rug and then letting is "dry" in the sun would help. The UV light of sunshine has a bit of a natural "disinfecting" quality.Helpful Reply

Culpepper Carpets and Interiors, Inc. on Mar 22, 2012Olefin products are naturally stain, sun, and mildew resistant. They are a petroleum product that really performs! Many outdoor rugs are made of Olefin.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Mar 22, 2012Lee Anne is correct....but more or a question might be as to Why an outdoor rug is needed in the first place? I'm a big fan of low maintenance, it is one reason I built my deck with Ipe...one weekend every other year for an oil "touch up" and my Outdoor space is DONE.Helpful Reply

Karen on Mar 23, 2012Thanks to all who responded. The rug would be for a small outside side patio on a villa. The screen porch on the back is enclosed with glass sliders making it an all weather room, but I want to simulate a "room" on the outside patio which is on the side of the villa. It isn't condusive to enclosure the way it is set up, has to be open air. And I want some sun anyway. I like low maintenance, all the furniture outside is all weather wicker and resin so I won't be painting it every year. Budget doesn't allow for decorative concrete work since there is a lot more concrete than just on the patio. There is a large walkway from the fence in front all the way to the back of the house. Lee Anne is right, I just want to add a layer to make it look extra nice, Have pillows with sunbrella type material that won't fade for several years. Just want to get a rug that will last at least a couple of years. Then maybe the concrete work will be in the budget. When we aren't there I can bring it inside the garage. Think I will take a look when the outdoor rugs go on sale at Lowe's and Home Depot.Helpful Reply

Kim on Aug 02, 2015Have you checked Costco? They have indoor/outdoor rugs made from recycled water bottles and yes they are mold mildew proof and just hose down to clean. We have had ours 3 years and love it! Cost for @ 6' x8'' was around $35.Helpful Reply
