Betty on Mar 23, 2012Would love to plant a fig tree. Are they quick growing and producing. Is there one variety better than another. I remember my grandmother had a great fig tree going to her house and going out back and picking fresh fruit. A good memory.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Mar 24, 2012The chief drawback to the fig is that you need a large space. For a complete guide to growing them at home, see this from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service: http://www.caes.uga.edu/publications/pubDetail.cfm?pk_id=6802Helpful Reply

Jan F on Mar 24, 2012I have two fig trees in my yard. LOVE THEM!!! Fruit bearing after two years. One has spread out, the other has not. Both are Brown Turkey Figs. One has large figs. The other has small figs. Both are sweet and delicious. I highly recommend fig trees! They do fine in PA.Helpful Reply

Cultivators Design and Landscape on Mar 24, 2012Ayana, Walter has some great suggestions! Blueberries work well here in GA with little care and you can mix them into your existing landscape plantings! Figs are great as well but require space as Douglas mentioned. If you go with an Apple I would suggest the yellow delicious....we have had good luck with those in the past. I would stay away from peach because they tend to require a lot of maintenance. Hope this helps! :)Helpful Reply
