Questions about newly installed water feature in the garden

Hi my mum has just paid a lot of money to get her garden landscaped, but there is a couple of things I'm not quite sure if he has done them right or not. Please help.
1. He has fitted a gravel pathway with boarders but what I noticed is he never put any weed protection under the gravel the sheet ones. Should have laid them down so the weeds don't come through.
2. Also he has put like a tube thing for my water feature , sticking out the garden ready for my water feature to be fitted. I'm not sure , what you do but he is saying I need different things and going to cost more money. How would I go about doing this myself for my mum. Thankyou x

It would be helpful to have a few pictures and to know what kind of water feature she wants.. Small pond, fountain etc.

Dirt eventually gets atop landscape fabric, then the gravel can hold in enough moisture to start plants/weeds growing and their roots will go down right through, so landscape fabric really isn't best idea. The weeds will be much easier to pull without it.. Haven't any ideas about the water thing, though. Best of luck, bet it will be lovely when you are done.

@Corrie Kirman I'll enjoy seeing those pictures, too. Forgot to mention, if you are trying to grow seedlings of any kind, they will be about as happy as those weeds. I'm terrible with seeds but that works pretty well.

Lowe's and Home Depot are very helpful for do it yourselfers. You can also start doodling around (oops...I guess they call it surfing the web) online for how to tutorials.

I agree with Ms. Harris, the first thing you or anyone needs to know is, what kind of a water feature does your mum wish for... also, landscape fabric is an unneeded expense. it will (sometimes) slow down the growth of weeds, but there is nothing known to man that will stop them completely from ever growing. In my opinion, one way to combat weeds before they get a chance to grow, is rock salt. You don't need a lot of it, but it does need to be spread out across the entire walkway. There are chemicals that do the same thing, but I am one who opposes the use of chemicals. I offer my apologies for not being able to help you more. G'Day Marm. :-)
