KatAych on Mar 30, 2016You can cut/scrape it out with a razor and reapply. Make sure you use sealant specifically made for bathrooms so it is waterproof and mold-resistant.Helpful Reply

Linda Riet on Mar 31, 2016Unfortunately you have 'dry rot' behind that corner which means the timber used to make the shower frame has been damaged by water. It may still be leaking. Check your household insurance to see if leaks are covered & call a plumber who is qualified to do waterproofing compound. He will have to reframe & reline the wall.Helpful Reply

Helpful Reply

Sam on Mar 31, 2016I suspect water is getting in behind the shower pan and that repair has to be made even if it is a big fix. When caulk fails repeatedly it's a sure sign water is coming from behind the caulk bead. That said, a common mistake with silicone is to pile on silicone over silicone. Silicone doesn't stick to itself. On the other hand an elasotmeric sticks to everything including itself.Helpful Reply

Kathy Meador Wells on Mar 31, 2016Damage has been done. The only thing you can do is tear it out and start over. You have bigger problems that silicone cant fix.Helpful Reply

Teresa on Mar 31, 2016Sorry for your issue but it is that the water is behind the area and that is why it will not work and there may be mold too. Hope you can repair it soon for your health.Helpful Reply

Linda Johnson on Mar 31, 2016We had a similar problem with the caulking around our tub. We tore everything out & found mold behind it. We replaced the tub with a large shower and are very happy with the results. It only took us a weekend to complete. If the plumbing is already there, that's what's important. Make sure you have no leaks and no mold!!Helpful Reply

Linda Riet on Apr 01, 20161) To the left of the crack the paint is bubbling horizontally. 2) If silicon is applied correctly it does not peel back or crack therefore movement &/or water is still occurring. 3) The marking on the shower base & floor resembles mould which requires moisture. 4) The silicon was not applied properly as it is not smooth, so unless she reapplies it & smooths it off properly she will have the same result. 5) Unless the source of the moisture/leak is stopped, a cover up job is all she will achieve. Often taps/plumbing slowly drips behind the shower wall, which lands on the base timber resulting in the moisture following the timber grain - horizontal. The timber may need to be replaced before the wall is painted & should be treated with a waterproofing treatment. If she wants a cover up job the cheapest way is to apply a border of ceramic or porcelain tiles along the wall base.Helpful Reply
