MAGIC MESH DOOR???
Our sliding screen door bit the dust several seasons ago and while the window of opportunity to let fresh air in is pretty slim, there are times when I'd like to be able to keep sliding door open and bugs out.
Just wondered if anyone on HomeTalk has bought this, does it really work and is it worth the money, time & effort???

Sherrie S on Apr 03, 2012I have something like "Magic Mesh" that opens & closes either left or right side of my door with magnets. Mine works well and has been here for a number of years. From the video it seems it closes the door at multiple places. You want it closed or open, right? If that is true then Magic Mesh is the wrong product.Helpful Reply

Susan S on Apr 03, 2012Thanks for sharing your info Sherrie. I'm not necessarily sold on Magic Mesh, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience w/it and could offer some opinions. The web-site for MM shows it as a type of screening material and I think it's put up across the top of sliding door frame w/hook & loop tape. It opens in the center but all it takes is to just sort of walk thru it and it pulls apart for easy in/out and the magnets automatically pull the two halves back together. I'm just tired of sliding screen doors that are a royal pain, never stay on the track etc. So where did you get yours and is it on a track or how is it installed?Helpful Reply

Sherrie S on Apr 04, 2012Susan, the one I have is also on a track so it may not be what you want. The nice thing is the magnets are very strong and it is simple to close/open. It also has sceens that are almost invisible - unlike my other screens. I didn't install it but I believe the vendor bought it at Lowe's. This is installed separately from the door. I can send a pic if you would like.Helpful Reply

Susan S on Apr 04, 2012Sherrie that would be great if you wouldn't mind. You know the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words!! The invisible part almost sounds wonderful except I know for sure there are people in my house (Not me of course) who would walk right into it. Not to mention our poor old sheltie who's going blind. Would probably need to put a red X on w/tape or something at his eye level. LOL. Anyway, we'll "see"!!Helpful Reply

Sherrie S on Apr 05, 2012Susan, two views of screen open and closed. Somehow my dogs never try to touch it. They just watch all the creatures in the yard. I hope you find what you want.Helpful Reply

Susan S on Apr 05, 2012Thanks so much for the pictures and taking the time to do it!! That really is amazing - can't tell which is which except that you labled before & after!! We'll definitely do some searching to find something to let us be able to leave the slider open on the few "open door" days we have - like today!!! We've replaced the rollers & handles but one of these days the whole thing will need to go - all the double pane glalss has failed so now it always looks dirty & condensation forms. Lovely!! Just not in the game plan for now!!!Helpful Reply

Susan S on May 29, 2012@Aime B. in Richmond - I know you posted like 6 wks ago but I assume you'll receive notification of another post being made. I'm curious about your 60" opening - that's 5' (yes, I'm sure you already know that lol) but is that how wide one side of your sliding door is? That's really wide so I'm just curious. Only one side of mine opens and the slider stops short a few inches from totally overlapping the stationary side. I've measured it tons of times, just can't remember but if the Magic Mesh is only 36" wide, that does seem a bit shy of giving really good coverage width wise! Oh well, but since I'm posting this, obviously I haven't gotten one yet!! The good news is that now they can be found everywhere in the "as shown on TV" aisle!! LOLHelpful Reply

Susan S on Jun 22, 2012@Kathi P - lol, Yeah I think our dog would be hesitant too. I still haven't gotten one yet and now I see them in WalMart so at least that eliminates S/H. I'm pretty sure I'd have to stand there and part the opening for our guy.Helpful Reply

Susan S on Jul 07, 2012Yeahhhhhh - that would work on a "normal" dog but our Max just doesn't respond to the usual briberies!!! Now, he's a purbred Sheltie w/papers BUT, um, how do I say this - he seems to have ended up on the short end of the intelligence scale! He was a "rescue", from my husband's son, but he was a Puppy Mill product to begin with. 'Nuff said????? I'm pretty sure the cat would catch on a whole lot quicker ;~)Helpful Reply
