Straw Bale Garden Aka Hot Bed

A great raised bed that provides bottom heat for a longer growing season. Easy to build and lasts years.
I have a short growing season. Living in the mountains is wonderful but I do miss the longer gardening season I enjoyed in the valley.
My fix is a straw bale hot bed. This raised bed provides heated soil to grow those crops that like the heat in summer and allows me to grow greens right through winter.
I don't grow in the straw bales, I grow between the straw bales. The decomposing plant material underneath the growing layer heats the soil and the wood at the base acts as a sponge so you actually water much less.

Suggested materials:
- Straw bales (Feed Store)
- Fresh Manure (My chickens)
- Compost (Yard Debris Recycling Center)
