Fire barrier for the ceiling

KMS Woodworks on May 27, 2013While drywall does have some "fire resistance" it is mostly used because it is fast and cheap to install compared to other products. Tongue and groove wood siding is an option as well as various metal products. http://www.decorativeceilingtiles.net/products/12004-Tin-Ceiling-Tile-%252d-12004.html?gclid=CIfu1c3AtrcCFRBgMgodzQsAuQHelpful Reply

SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on May 27, 2013My question is why do you think you need a fire barrier? With that the most typical product is minimum 1/2 drywall up to 5/8 drywall rated just for fire. Depending on your needs you might be able to use solid wood, specialty paints & even cellulose insulation. The biggest issue I see is you really need to make sure any penetrations are adequately sealed (wiring, ducts, plumbing) especially those false soffits above the cabinets and balloon framed wallsHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on May 27, 2013I agree with SLS on this. Or you can install a metal ceiling with a pattern. Fire resistant and looks fancy.Helpful Reply
