Barbie houses are expensive. So of course I decided to give it a go and make my own. My girl shops at Goodwill, Dollar General, Hobby Lobby and around the garage and other people's junk. No plastic house for this Barbie.
I bought one of these shelf units. Originally I was going to use only one but like any Barbie she bought more things and needed to up her square footage. So 1 more shelf and she can drive a used car to make up the difference LOL.
Purchase a shelf unit anywhere you can find a cheap one. I used 2 and put them together.
I did not use the backing that came with it. (Thought I was going to just have white rooms so easier to use the foamboard than the flimsy cardboard.) So I used a white foam board for $4.99. But then decided to decorate the rooms with paper (I used spray adhesive and then sprayed polycrylic over it)
This is the Barbie house so far. As with any house it is a work in progress. Bedroom on 3rd level; a future office and completion of bathroom on the second level; first level living room/dining area. Rooftop deck will be added at a later time. For a few specifics about items in the room visit my FB page and click the individual pictures: https://www.facebook.com/shuggysplace/
