Re-Purposing A Dining Room Built-in Hutch…Into Playroom Toy Shelves

Do your toys multiply overnight (like mine do)? I seem to always lack storage and organization in the playroom.
My husband and I been renovating our house and we recently removed a really big built-in unit from our dining room. I gave away a couple pieces (the shelves on the far right and far left) that were removed but the center hutch I knew I could re-purpose for something.
My husband and I been renovating our house and we recently removed a really big built-in unit from our dining room. I gave away a couple pieces (the shelves on the far right and far left) that were removed but the center hutch I knew I could re-purpose for something.
Here’s a pic of the original dining room built-in. I have an arrow point to the hutch that I was going to re-purpose.
Unfortunately it had the countertop attached to it so my husband sawed that part clean off. Then it sat like this in our garage for a month or so before I decided to do anything with it.
Finally, I had an "ah-ha moment" when I decided I needed something to organize all the toys in the playroom! Something fun in color.
So I painted the sides and front this fun teal-ish blue, then gave it bit of a rustic look.
It turned out beautiful! AND so functional!
Adding this to the playroom really brought in more color, function, and fun decor.

If I were you, I’d paint the inside too or glue cool wallpaper to the back and reattach the doors to hide the mess after replacing glass with a beadboard or tin sheet. Great repurposing idea! Thanks!

Lovely and resourceful. Congrats to all you folks who have kids for making time for projects when you have kiddos!
And a shout out to Dottie Grady for her idea, too. You added mirrors?
Thanks!

Thank you Terre! It's definitely a challenge to get things done with young kiddos. Some projects go unfinished for a long time...!
