Ladybug problem inside my home...what to do ?

LeeAnn Gerleman on Apr 06, 2016I live in Iowa, and we know them as Asian beetles. They were imported to Iowa to kill and eat some kind of bacteria or fungus in corn plants. They enter the house and sometimes climb up to the top. They say if you take water with spearmint or peppermint in it and spray around windows and doors, you can keep them out. I did that several years ago, and haven't seen many since. But I don't know if it was the spraying or if it was luck.Helpful Reply

Sheryl Gilliland on Apr 06, 2016Inga, I always felt that they were good luck. But I have now found out that some are plant eaters. The ones I knew just ate pests. Here is one link:http://www.orkin.com/other/beetles/ladybugs-asian-lady-beetles/ (I am NOT advertising for Orkin, this was just an informative article.) Good luck and I hope you have the good kind.Helpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Apr 06, 2016Try putting bay leaves and cloves in pushes where you see they are visible or try essential orange oil. Lady Bugs do not like those scents.Helpful Reply

Jean Myles on Apr 06, 2016Inga I have had a few in my house last week.Thay are Asian Ladybugs, not the regular Ladybugs if you look closely they are more orange than red. and if you squash a live one it stinks .I don't know how they get in or how to get rid of them.I have been spraying every nook and cranny with Green Earth Homecare Insect Killer. I think I bought it at HomeHardware ( Canada ) .I had some last spring but so far less this year. But then again its snowing here today. Good luck I will be watching your post to see if some one can help .Helpful Reply

MN Mom on Apr 06, 2016They are more likely to be Asian Beetles than lady bugs. If it seems yo be an infestation I would call a professional. If it's just a couple here and there, it could be they were dormant and have just come to life with warmer temps when you returned from vacation and turned the heat up in your home. Nuisance for sure but unless you're totally creeped out and think they are breeding someplace in your house, I'd treat them like a house fly or other random insect and get rid of them as they appear.Helpful Reply

Jmschneider on Apr 07, 2016Lady bugs sleep in bunches and that can be a large amount in the winter. We always have them in our entry hallway each year. Around late winter/early spring they just sort of wake up. When you see a group of them, vacuum them up and throw them outside. . I just do that a few times until they are gone. They dont seem to come back until the next yearHelpful Reply

Jan on Apr 07, 2016Suck them up in your vacuum. I put a cotton ball soaked with bug spray in my vac to kill them. Saves getting bug spray in your living space.Helpful Reply

C.t4278646 on Apr 07, 2016I too suck them up in vacuum. I have Western Pest Services, for termites, spiders, etc. they said they aren't allow to spray the lady bugs to get rid of them. I live in the country and one side of my house gets many, many, many lady bugs. This is only during certain times of the year. Anyway I only have the recourse to vacuum tons of them up during the season. HorribleHelpful Reply

Barbara Shively on Apr 07, 2016We used to get 100's crawling on the ceiling and didn't get relief until we replaced our old (leaking) french doors with new doors and repaired some old windows as well.Helpful Reply
