Old Dresser Makeover

This is another old, tired dresser story. You've heard them all before. "It was in great shape but the top was damaged" or "It was looking tired and outdated", or "I just like to paint so I gave it a makeover".... Well, you can pick whichever one of those you want and apply it here.
This was an old dresser, but not an antique by any stretch of the imagination. It had been in storage for quite awhile and the top was damaged, but the rest was in great shape.
I always, always, always prep my furniture no matter what kind of paint I use. At the very least I do scruff sanding and degreasing. Prepping is the worst, but for a smooth, professional looking finish it's a must.
After prepping, I painted the drawers using homemade chalk paint.
I then painted the trim a coco color. I used my Purdy angled brush and paint free handed without taping. When I finished I did any necessary touch ups with a craft brush.
The original hardware was cleaned and put back on.

I love the look of chalk painted furniture with stained top, but am intimidated by refinishing. You mentioned the top being a bit scratched. What did you do with the top?

Does the cocoa color always look grey or is that just the photo? It is beautiful.

What do you use to degrease these pieces?
