1 gal. Hot water
3/4 cp. Olive oil
1/2 cp. lemon juice
clean and polish hardwood floors. The hot water & lemon clean the floor and the olive oil leaves a natural sheen. Apply with a mop that has been rung out well, then let it dry. No need to rinse after - once it dries your floors will look great.
I like to use warm water vinegar, a few drops of my favorite essential oil and microfiber cloth on a swifter stick.
Cold strong tea. My Gran would put all the leftover tea bags during the week in a big jar of water in the fridge then ise it to mop with. Need to rinse your mop in clear water so it will take two buckets.
Mix 2 tablespoons white vinegar with 2 quarts warm water in a large cleaning bucket. Swish your mop into the mixture and wring it as dry as you can and mop. Sprinkle a light coat of baking soda over the residue, which gives you a slightly gritty texture that causes no harm to the hardwood floors but assists you in removing the buildup on the floor. Dip a nylon scrub brush into the cleaning bucket and scrub off the residue, working the baking soda into the buildup. Continue until you have removed all the ground-in dirt. Let the floor air dry.
I use a steam mop with only distilled water in it.
1) wet mop head and wring thoroughly. Fill spray bottle with equal parts vinegar, alcohol and water + 3 drops dishsoap. Spray area and mop with wrung out mop.
2) add 3-4 drops of dish soap to hot water. Wet and thoroughly wring mop head. Mop area rinsing frequently.
Additionally, I never use any wet mop until thoroughly dry moping the floor. Use a vacuum or dustmop to remove the all debris before moping with either of the above techniques.
Hi Barbara, I love my dark 100 year old floors and clean them with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. To give them and sheen (and to make the house smell incredibly) I usually add some lemon grass and eucalyptus essential oil.
If your hardwood is sealed, you should be able to clean with the swifter cleaner. Floor should not be left wet though.
😊
Buff floor with a cloth.
Try using plain white toothpaste.Rub into the stain to allow it to penetrate and wipe off. Follow with a mixture of white vinegar and water.
I love my HAAN steam mop! No chemicals used, only water. Cleans beautifully w/no icky residue, ever. My hardwood still looks great after 20+ years!
I've used this since 2001 & my floors look like new
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp blue Dawn
2 gallons warm water
wring mop as much as possible
I use plain water or the Swiffer for wood floors. Change the water or pads frequently so that you aren't leaving dirty residue on the floor. Use as little solution on the floor as possible to that it dries quickly. We just purchased a rug doctor floor cleaner for multiple floors and it sucks up the dirty water and it dries really quickly and leaves floors gleaming. With four dogs and lots of fine dirt and mud coming in the house, it has been a godsend! It came with removeable parts for carpet and wood or tile. It wasn't cheap, but it is worth the price for the job it does on the floors.
When I want to clean mine quickly, we sweep first, then place 4-5 unscented baby wipes on the floor overlapping. Press these down with a long handled push broom type tool (you can use any kind of tool that will hold the baby wipes against the floor while you push them around). Push the baby wipes around an area about 20 square feet. When you pick up the baby wipes you can use them to clean any stubborn spots on the floor with a minimum of bending. Start on another section of floor with more baby wipes. This system replicates the Swiffer type cleaners, without the expense. When we want to deep clean the floor, we vacuum and then use hot steam in a steam broom.
we simply use a damp towel for the bulk of our wood floor cleaning... In most cases excess "cleaner" can lead to dulling residues.
I use a damp clean cloth with water and either Dr. Bonner's soap or Murphy's soap
