How to Hide a Water Heater - Realtor Secret Exposed!!

Our RE/MAX Gateway Real Estate Team was getting ready to List a BEAUTIFUL Condo for Sale, but the one issue that had always bothered our Seller was how to hide an ugly water heater located in the Laundry/Mud Room between the Garage and Kitchen. The space was very small and required plenty of venting, so building a wall was out of the question. We headed to Ikea and purchased the Kvartal Curtain Rods that could be mounted on the ceiling and featured a curved connector and curtain gliders. We also purchased the Kvartal $5.00 mitre box saw kit to make the job easy. Finally, we found a neutral lighter weight curtain that worked perfectly, because Ikea curtains are extra long and gave us full ceiling to floor coverage. You will need a drill, drywall anchors and a screw driver, but the job was pretty simple. Final Cost: less than $100! Our wonderful Seller was very pleased with our results and the condo sold the first week with Multiple Offers. Hope this is helpful! BethandSusie Remax on Feb 02, 2015Hello Terrie - Yes, this was a gas water heater. The most important consideration was safety when considering how to best cover the big water heater in a small space. The rod attaches to the ceiling and we made sure that there was an 8 inche clearance from the water heater. You want to check with a plumber or contractor in case your water heater is set up differently, but this solution offered a way to cover the tank yet allowed airflow. I hope this helps! I have also seen tall folding screens used to block the view - that might be an option for you -just make sure nothing is directly touching the water heater and check with a contractor before using the curtain method we tried. Best of luck! Beth

If my water tank was hidden, we wouldn't have seen the pin hole leak on top one morning, and it could have been a disaster of a mess to clean up. Very glad to have mine visible.
