Making Your Own Slip Covers

I've redecorated our family room several times - all with the same pieces of furniture - by making slip covers!
Here is how our room looks today...
Here is how our room looks today...
And here is how it used to look...
The couch is the same couch - but simply covered in a slip cover that I made with less than $200 of fabric!
This is our original couch. We love this couch - deep, down filled cushions, solid construction.
And here it is today. This style of couch is very easy to cover with this straight back and loose cushions. Looks just like a brand new couch from Pottery Barn!
Both of the white chairs in this room have also been slip covered.
There's not room here on HomeTalk to give you all the detailed instructions that are on my blog.
If you can sew a straight line, you can sew a slip cover!
Enjoyed the project?

Your ideas are great! The one different thing I would do would be to eliminate what I call "pig ears" on the throw pillows and have a more "square" look without the points. Easy to do by trimming the corners about 1/2 inch, from the corner to 1/4 of the way across the connecting edge. I like this "neater" look.

I’m looking for the directions to make a slip cover and I don’t see them. I need to cover an outdated couch that is in perfect condition. Please advise.
thank you!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I love the idea of using drop clothes. My question to all of you that have dyed it is what vessel did you use to dye that amount of fabric? I don't want to use my bathtub because its been reglazed and I'm hesitant on ruining it, especially while I'm trying to clean up the dye. I want to use a medium gray.
How do you testify an old sofa? How do you know what type of stuffing to use?
