Louisiana Map & Yardstick Overhauled Writing Desk

I had a blast doing the overhaul on this vintage writing desk. It was so huge, it was begging for a map. So I had a large Louisiana map on hand that worked perfectly. I even had regions left over to cover the pull-out writing panels. Vintage yardsticks adorn the top edge of the desk and the fronts of all of the side drawers.
I used a couple of coats of CeCe Caldwell chalk paint for the striking color. After a lot of careful distressing I gave it several coats of clearcoat.
I applied the map with carpenters glue (and a ton of patience). I watered the glue down some so that I would have longer to work with it to make sure there were no wrinkles.

Linda Phillips on Jul 31, 2015Love it! Would make a great teacher's desk at school. I am a retired LA school teacher that grew up in Shreveport. I now live in Missouri. Loved reading the familiar business names on the yardsticks.
