Can ceramic tiles be covered or painted?

15 years ago I had gray kitchen tiles installed. They meet in a corner with a black diamond shape tile. I'd like to change the black to navy/nautical blue. Is there a vinyl material that I can just cut and press on? I'm willing to paint them-but how? Thanks!

Yes the existing tile can be painted. I painted our 50's plastic stuff when we moved in 78 and didn't rip it down until 2010. Thoroughly clean, wiping with acetone to remove any wax and grease, scuff with 100 grit paper, use a good primer and an enamel finish- it need not be glossy( it will stay clean longer). Use the same process for ceramic tile. If you want to adhere something over exiting tile again thoroughly clean so the glue sticks. In both cases make sure the existing tile is attached firmly to the wall.

you could cover them with a laminate flooring.

Yes, they can be painted with concrete paint - sealing it first with the concrete sealer. We did it in our foyer.

@Cantito01 The type of paint you choose (gloss, semi gloss, stain, etc.) will provide the amount of shine that you desire not the sealer.

Years ago I covered tile with wallpaper. From floor to about 4 feet up. A coating of acrylic over all and it stood up to babies, kids and years of wear.

Go talk to the paint dept at Lowe's or HD (or similar), but the sealer helps keep the paint on the tiles. The paint we used is semi-gloss but there are options.
