Awesome Kitchen Makeover - Low Budget, Big Result

This is one of the very first makeovers I did quite a few years ago.
Wanted a stained glass type back splash in bright colors, which I could not find locally or online. You know when sometimes you have a vision and try to compare everything to that, then it gets quite hard, if not impossible to get that same or even similar thing, that too in a limited budget. Then what's a self respecting DIYer was supposed to do? You guessed it right. I did it myself. First I painted the back splash, then a couple of years down the road, I did my cabinets and rest of the kitchen.

I did not need a fortune to make over my kitchen to my liking, only some imagination.
This is how our kitchen looked when we moved into our previous home. This back splash is a worn out wall paper.

I don't have photos taken during the process, but I can try to explain a little, if that helps. These colorful tiles are achieved with latex paint mixed with very fine sand and glue and then painted in layers on top of that. Of course I had to do a lot of measuring and taping with 1/4" masking tape for this tile pattern.
The area under the range hood was done in a bold and different pattern than the rest. It gives the illusion of being 3-D, but its not.
Cabinets were painted a couple of years after and knobs replaced with new ones, custom painted to match the gray grout lines.
