  • The Beginning. Clean the concrete floor very well. Then paint the floor with 2 coats of Kilz water based sealer. Let it dry overnite. Next day streak entire floor with acrylic paint wood colors in one direction. I used bamboo tones. 1
  • Finished Floor. When paint streaks are dry, create the lines with a black permanent Sharpie pen that represent the boards. I did 6"x3' boards. stagger the boards approx 12" like wood floors. Darken a few boards for natural variation. 13
  • My Studio. When boards are to your liking and paint is dry, apply at least 4 coats of polyurethane over the entire floor. Let dry 3 days before putting furniture on it and 2 weeks before dragging across floor. Voila! You did it.

painting concrete floors

I had to pull the carpet up in one of my bedrooms and I didnt know what to put down on the bare concrete floor, so it stayed concrete for a while. I eventually decided to use the room as ...»
an art studio and wanted to have a wood floor in there. I decided to put my trompe l'oiel knowledge to work and paint the concrete floor in a bamboo style similar to my bamboo floor in my living room and I love the way it turned out. People have to look twice or be told its painted. a true trompe l'oiel effect.

  • 1. Here's the before. A faux stain glass window I created using Gallery Glass over a decade ago. I used a hand steamer and scraper to remove the design. I'll be honest -- it took some elbow grease.
  • 2. Before I started, I drew out my desired design on a sheet of paper sized to the window. This served as my template.
  • 3. Then I grabbed my faux stain glass Gallery Glass materials, which included self-adhesive leading strips, liquid leading, and crystal clear "color."
  • 4. I applied the leading strips first. They are so easy to work with and can easily be cut, removed, and repositioned. A level ensured the lines were straight.
  • 5. Once the leading lines were in place, I applied the Gallery Glass crystal clear directly onto the glass. When it dried to clear after 24 hours, it added instant character to my 100+ year old home.

Faux Leaded Glass Window

I've always had a fondness for leaded glass windows, but the expense was out of reach. That is until I found a product that let me turn my boring old glass windows into faux stain glass ...»
beauties. I simply applied the product directly onto the existing window. And self-adhesive "leading" strips made the process so much easier. The full tutorial can be found on my blog post ...

Painting: I have painted my kitchen table

Can anyone tell me how long I need to let the oil based varnish cure before I can use it? Also, what's the best way to prep my chairs for painting?

  • Before, note the one small window that allows very little light in the kitchen due to a patio and a huge tree. 4
  • I did a lot of prep work before I started priming.
  • I used a paint sprayer to primer and paint all of the doors and drawer fronts. 1
  • After several coats of primer and semi-gloss paint. 1
  • I painted my hinges and installed new knobs instead of the brass colored handles. 2
  • After--so much cleaner and brighter looking, don't ya think? 16

How I painted my oak cabinets

I have a step by step process on My Repurposed Life http://www.myrepurposedlife.net/2010/12/how-...

I painted the cabinets about 18 months ago. Not a nick or a scratch anywhere. I really took a lot of precautions to make sure this paint STUCK.
