The Perfect Potting Bench, complete with sink and dirt bin.
Old Door, Reclaimed Wood, Copper sink, Vents
I have collected materials for a long time, some of them when purchased I wasn't sure what I'd use them for, just knowing I loved them. They all came together in this potting bench for my new greenhouse. My husband and I constructed the table portion of the bench out of reclaimed wood from neighborhood fences being torn down. The pull out potting soil bin is a fave of mine, constructed like the pull out bins you see in kitchen for garbage.

The galvanized tub was snagged for $15, we attached a rope to the pull the bin open. It has a pin on the inside that slips into a drilled hole to hold it open when in use. The old brass heat vent grates over the dirt came out of an old mansion in Lake Charles, LA. I simply sweep the excess soil to the vents and it falls back into the dirt bin below.

The old white door on the back Still gives me a view of the yard. Old funnels store string and jute. The chalkboard piece to the right is a market piece that holds chalk, garden journal and clips etc. The white piece in the center is also a market piece that I attach seed packets to or reminder notes. On the front of the cabinet, that old green door caught my attention with its beadboard, old hardware and lovely green color made a perfect door for the cabinet under the sink.

Lastly, you have to hear the story about the sink. It's a copper sink that was originally used in old railcars, the sink stopper still works. It makes the perfect addition to the bench. It was a rare find on a roadside garage sale in central Texas, I think it was a steal for $25! I purchased the faucet online.
Suggested materials:
  • Copper Sink   (Garage Sale)
  • Bead Board ends, painted to match original old cabinet door.   (Leftover from a beadboard bathroom wall)
