Headboard Find at the Goodwill Into a Functional Piece of Furniture

I love things that folks want to discard. I found this old headboard at the Goodwill combined it with a headboard in our basement that my father in law made years ago. The goal in mind was to turn this into extra seating in our small living room. I am redoing our home which was built in 1890. I wanted something custom for my husband and I.
I began with the two headboards and many 1x4's from Home Depot. As a side note my original plan was to attach this to the wall. However, I changed my plans mid stream and removed from the wall and made it a free standing piece of furniture.
Base built with storage compartments
I added image transfers using Anne Sloan decoupage and crackled it to appear vintage. I used Anne Sloan dark and clear wax, graphite, French linen and old white as a base
I upholstered the seats and areas in the front with printed burlap from Joann fabrics
The entire project took one month from start to finish
Fully lined storage compartments under each seat.
Suggested materials:
  • Anne Sloan paints   (Local stockist)

A-MAZ-ING. At first, I didn't think I was going to like the two totally different headboards being used but you tied them in together splendidly!
