If I can give up my ceiling fan, then that would work wonders for me too. -
great idea. wish I had thought of it BEFORE buying a pot rack, esp since yours has much more shelf space on the top -
What was that you used? -
did the grocery store give it to you or did you find it in their trash container?...awesome idea, wish I had a bigger kitchen with ceiling space ;) -
Creative I guess, but to cluttered for me -
Clever! Good for you Diane H! -
I don't see what you used. -
I am just now in the process of removing accoustical tile from my drop celing added by a previous owner. I have hated it since I got the house. Now I am wonding if I should keep the railing that the tiles were placed on? NO, I hate those also! lol. I am somewhat claustrophobic so I am wanting something less cluttered to use myself. I would only put the Martha Stewart pans I use daily up there. Any ideas that I can use that are CHEAP? -
Thanks so much for the positive input everyone. I'll answer the questions the best I can. I found it on the side of the road in an individual's trash. It had spot-welded side on it which we broke out with little effort. It might look cluttered, but it's much better than the pans sitting stacked on the counter. I moved my ceiling fixture over out of the center by using swag light kit. I plan to use the side I took off for additional shelving supported by chains and placed over my patio ...» -
do you have cupboards on each side of your window over your sink?? Seen on Martha Stewart years ago. I took a shower curtain road and mounted it above the sink, each end secured to the cupboard. You can buy hooks in various legnths... Makes a GREAT pot rack. I also hang my MS cutting boards, colander, etc. It can be used for all widths of windows. -
Yes, Linda C, I do have cabinets on either side of my sink. I have already decided to span that space with some kind of thin plywood or boarding of some such. I am still deciding on crown molding or if it will be too much of a lip on top of the cabinets. Plus harder and more expense. Instead, I am now toying with the idea of adding some quarter round to the bottom of the board I use to span that space. I think that will be my easiest, closest match to the trim at the top of my crappy ...» -
What's the old saying...necessity is the mother of invention? Great idea! I wish my ceiling in my kitchen were high enough to accommodate a pot rack. Good for you! -
I too have little cabinet space in my small apartment so I used 2 plant hangers an a fancy curtain rod with some S hooks works great -
I echo the other sentiments, WTG2! I wish I had a pot rack, but with vaulted ceilings it would hang down too far and not look good. You obviously do a lot of cooking. Your family must be well fed. I saw a pot rack made from an old wood ladder, the kind with round rungs. -
Clever idea, great way to save space. -
Your island is cute too. Very functional welcoming kitchen :) -
I would like these too! -
to much junk makes the kitchen look BAD and unkept -
Thank you again. Mary V, I made the island from a vanity I found for $5 and a former lighted sign for $1. I removed the acrylic and replaced it with plywood on which I did a mosaic around four tiles from my past two houses. In the "box" part of the sign I put four baskets for holding utensils as a sort of drawer area. It needed dressing up so around it is some handmade trim I inherited from my mom's former neighbor. Mary U, you took the time just to criticize, God bless you. -
Kinda scary having that much junk hanging above your head. And why would you want to display that anyway?? -
Ron P It's VERY well anchored and when you have no space or funds you do what you have to. It's not for display, it's for utility. -
Diane, I have seen hanging pots in a couple of design magazines, and have seen them in stores where you could hang them from a ceiling or wall. They weren't cheap either, so I am glad you could get yours at such a great price. -
Yeah, when you have a small space, you have to find ways to utilize it any way you can. -
Thanks, Terri J and Connie J! I guess those who can do, those who can't criticize. No matter what it is.some people just want to be negative. -
Clever idea. Given my tendencies, I would probably bang my head and stab myself with some of the utensils.
