Kathy on Jun 11, 2013I would paint the frame white, you can never go wrong with white, and cover the seat in a bright pattern.Helpful Reply

Jessica Dunbar on Jun 11, 2013I say paint it a fun color like bright purple! Then definitely recover the seat in a bold fabric.Helpful Reply

Sabina on Jun 11, 2013Saw a similar style chair re-do on TV the other night. They sanded and repainted the frame a high laquer black and recovered the cushions with burlap from old feed sacks with the writing on the seat. It was a great look and someone snapped up the pair for a handsome price!Helpful Reply

Rosalie M on Jun 11, 2013I think your idea for red with black/white is a great plan. Only you know where you would want to use the chair and will those colors work in your chosen area. I am conservative and don't have the nerve for bright crazy colors. Love them in other peoples' houses, but not in mine. Post a picture of the redone chair please. We can all use ideas.Helpful Reply

Junkgypsee on Jun 12, 2013Paint is a soft emerald green and then cover the seat with black/cream toile fabric. Just do a light distress without aging it. Classic, timeless look! It's got to be the right green, so take your time...Last thing..the cushion looks uncomfortable..I would really give it a stuffing, giving it some body, softening the look.Helpful Reply

Junkgypsee on Jun 12, 2013Here are some examples...I didn't have a photo of the black/cream, but the black/white should give you a general idea.Helpful Reply

NancyandRichard Wisneski on Jun 12, 2013I'd paint it in a glossy, fun color for some punch, then tame it down a bit with a two-color or monochromatic fabric like the toile Junkgypsee suggested or a harlequin print. A little more modern, but whimsical.Helpful Reply

Frankie Laney on Jun 12, 2013Thanks for the ideas Junkgypsee. Green is one of my favorites along with the tangerine that Jane Jedlick offered up. I love the idea of black and white with either of those colors, and yes the seat needs some cushioning. Bright, no distressing. Nancy's idea of a harlequin print is intriguing. Guess I need more chairs!Helpful Reply

Marsha J on Jun 12, 2013It is such an interesting chair, nice "bones", I'd go with your first thoughts. I always get a picture in my head of what the furniture will become...its hard to forget it and go withsomething totally different unless you 1) can't find the stuff you need 2) wreck it in the process and need a new concept. It will lend itself to many different treatments, so it depends on what you want it to contribute to the space....whimsy, cheerful, warmth and style, etc. nice find.Helpful Reply

Junk Gypsee on Jun 13, 2013I can't wait to see your finished project Franke1!! I have an old chair too and I'm thinking of using a similar idea. What do you think? I'm going to add green piping to the the back and bottom...and then add an extra little splash on the bottom edging, under the piping, with 1" charcoal beading.Helpful Reply

Frankie Laney on Jun 13, 2013Your chair will be so cute. I love the idea of the piping and beading. Just sounds fun. I'm finishing up a little red table and then I'll start on my "chair" project.Helpful Reply
