SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on May 09, 2016This can be tough, as anything you do will impact future use & sales thus a runner is the most common. Next is replacing the treads, adding a strip to them, adding a new front nosing (metal L used for carpeting). Another option is repainting or staining them with a slip resistant material (generally has some sand or other sort of granules in it) I know you might want your pooch upstairs but it might be best if you kept him downstairs as even this might not be enough (sorry)Helpful Reply

Valeria C Green on May 09, 2016There is a paint, that has sand in it. You just paint the stirs and the sand makes them not slippery .Helpful Reply

Sheryl Gilliland on May 09, 2016It might not be the stairs. Check your fur-baby's claws, if you hear a clicking sound when walking on a hard surface, it might be the claws that are making it slippery. Your groomer will know about that. And if that is not the case there is a textured clear vinyl to put on the edge of the step. they are used to protect a carpet edge.Helpful Reply

Ranger on May 09, 2016Perhaps get an (old?) carpet rug and cut lengths to glue to the stairs - even rubber mats from a car would work for the dog.Helpful Reply

Liz Straughn on May 10, 2016I would get the non-skid rug liners and rug runners and tack them to the stairs. When you sell the house, they'll be fairly easy to remove. They will make the stairs look nice in the meantime, and your four-legged baby can get up them easier.Helpful Reply

Mike on May 11, 2016Laminate stairs are a bad idea anyway . If it was me I would replace them with carpet . Not worth the risk of your pet or yourself slipping and falling down the stairs . Applying a none slip sand is a good idea on outside stairs but not inside as the sand bits will come off in time and actually act like sandpaper under foot and scratch the surface . I don't think there is a nice cosmetic way of applying non slip sand on anyway . Go to a reputable flooring retailer and talk to a pro installer for other idea's . I worked for home improvement stores for over 40 years and I have seen all sorts of idea's . carpet is still one of the best to put on stairs . Durable commercial grade carpet is best for dirt resistance . It can be applied in strips or cover the complete surface of the stairs .Helpful Reply

Lynn Palmatier on May 11, 2016We had a similar problem with our old dog. We opted to get carpet treads for the stairs and stuck them to the step with double sided tape. Worked out well. Even the little kids will not slip with their stocking feet.Helpful Reply
