Put a Fork In It!

Have you got an old birdhouse just sitting around waiting to be placed on a pole? Why not put a fork in it? A pitch fork that is. That's what we did with a special birdhouse that was made by my father in law. It was easy peasy and adds a touch of whimsy in the garden.
My father in law made this birdhouse for me a few years ago. I painted it aqua, glazed it, and then added the bits of junk.
I have a few birdhouses in my garden that are placed on poles so I wasn't quite sure what to do with this one. It got moved around from place to place until last summer I remembered the birdhouse my sister had given me that was attached to an old shovel.
Why not add it to an old pitchfork I already had. It was the perfect rustic addition to this birdhouse!
Hubby bought these pipe brackets at Home Depot and simply screwed it to the back. He used long enough screws to secure it well. But not so long they would injure any feathered friends that might take up residency. Although, that hasn't happened. :(
A touch of whimsy in the garden. I love it!

Very cute, but how do you clean out the old nesting material without having to unscrew the back, my luck the wood would splinter so bad...

great idea, love the use of the pitchfork. However, you may not have any birds nesting in it because it is too low to the ground and the birds can become easy prey if the house is not up higher.
