Is it for a retrofit or new construction? Depend on the condition of the existing duct-work as well. You can budget between 6-10K per ton and that is close to what it could cost. There is also a 30% fed tax credit available as well to help offset the upfront cost.

Geo-Thermal is expensive in most cases unless you have fairly deep pond on the property where they can pull water from. Otherwise your looking at a very large trench job, or one or two wells fairly deep to add to the cost of the system. Most begin around $40,000 and go up from there.

However combined with solar electrical system along with a properly air sealed home. You could end up being in a positive cash flow after its all done. Total costs with solar, insulation and system. $80 grand and up.

That is a good price for Geo-thermal. You need to remember that your really paying a lot over time. Much more then the cost of the system. With rebates and special tax offers, the cost should go down quite a lot.

In NJ there are rebates up to 50% if the energy efficiency of the house meets their standards.
