Closet Creation for Under $25
I've added a second pole in closets, some with a shelf over the second rod. Sometimes you have to move the existing shelf up a bit. I did one lady's closet with 2 stacked kitchen cabinents with doors off for folded storage. I use those plastic crates to store seasonal stuff on the top shelf, then more hanging room. You can also get a little hook or use a pop-top from a soda can to hang another hanger on an existing hanger ie. shirt on top, pants on lower hanger, doubles your hanging space. Shoe organizers can be plastic shoe boxes from Dollar Tree, with photo of shoe on end, stack on top shelf or closet bottom.
Plastic drawers work great in closets. If you have deep corners on the sides of the door you can add shelves above the clothes rod from wall to wall across the depth. Most closets already have a shelf spanning the width of the closet so the shelves spanning the depth can be laid on top of the existing shelf and need only be supported on one wall.
So are you wanting something outside of the existing closet space? If so there are dressers. My current favorite however is taking existing book shelves or some of those Cube organizers and adding baskets. For the floor space of one bookshelf you can have a shoe organizer, shelves for folded tee shirts, pants, sweaters, makeup supplies, jewelry, scarves, etc. Add a tension rod to hang the jewelry, scarves, etc. If you use chrome shelves you can position the shelves to take advantage of cube "basket" sizes. PS Leather clothing/shoes do not like airtight containers. You can buy shelf liners for the chrome shelves.
But first before you spend money, how about you check for something else you can use around the house? Reduce what you need to put in the closet by paring down--old, tired, damaged, ill fitting, out-of-favor, unflattering, hurtful, bad vibe clothing, shoes, etc. Pare together matching outfits, see how many outfits you can make out of what you have left. Ask yourself if you really need x number of x color tees, or jeans, or whatever else for which you have duplicates.
