I have a love for garden orbs/spheres,they a little pricey, and I wanted to get creative and see if I could pull off my own on fraction of the price.
I found this ball at a thrift store for $.99 cents.I saw potential .
To change my ball into an orb, It began with rust-oleum Satin Heirloom White. I spray painted 2 coats,Dry. To give my ball an aged stone look, craft paints in darker tan and grey applied with sea sponge lightly.
This is the finish look.
Here is an old bowling ball.Spray painted in Rust-oleum Satin Vintage Blush. The same treatment was done with this ball ,using craft paint color vanilla and grey, lightly tapping with sea sponge.
Well it doesn't end there! I wanted a sphere! So with 2 hanging baskets(on hand) they were joined together, top to top. The chains were removed and saved for another project. To secure the baskets I used zip ties.
I chose Rust-oleum Brick Red for my sphere.
Here is the finished ball/orb in the garden.
I like how it has a look of stone, with just paints.
Here is my bowling ball taking a stand as an orb/sphere.
2 hanging baskets joined together with English Ivy,will fill in my sphere in time.
This a second basket joined together with a urn filled with Vinca, this will eventually fill in and wrap around.
I love how these orb/spheres add a subtle look to the garden ! With very little money, who says you can't create the look!! Thanks for your time!

LOVE this idea! I would like to know the name of the vine you used. I am probably the only one that doesn't know. Thanks for your post.

Couldn't you also make a gazing ball with the bowling ball? It wouldn't fall out of the holder since it is so heavy and would hold a shiny glaze very well.
