My roses died in a span of 2 days after i planted them. What could have i done wrong?

Mary T on May 06, 2012Did the whole bush die or just the flowers? And did you put water in the hole and let it soak into the ground before filling the hole with the dirt? And did you also water the dirt around the rose in the pot before placing in the hole? Mary Thompson (Hester, LA)Helpful Reply

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on May 06, 2012Can you give us a bit more information on your Roses? Were they shipped to you bare root or did you purchase them locally? What size are your plants? They probably are not really dead from two days unless something went terribly wrong or they were problematic before prior to purchase. But we need more details in order to help you assess the problem and maybe SAVE your roses.Helpful Reply

Beverly P on May 08, 2012I would water them slowly, for like an hour, and see what happens. I have transplanted many roses ans even if they look bad for a few days they always seem to perk up. Roses are pretty forgiving, if after about two weeks they still look this way, take them back to Home Depot, they wil replace them.. Next time, seeing as you are in GA, try to wait till an overcast or cooler day to plant, if you can't then make sure you water them well to keep the roots cool and hydrated. Good luck gardening!Helpful Reply

Mimi Haywood on May 17, 2015I always soak roses for at least 24hrs. in a large container such as a five gallon bucket with a water solution using a rooting anti-shock product which hydrates the entire plant and supplies the plant with needed enzymes. There are many to choose from at Lowes, Home Depot and gardening centers. It gives you added insurance to promote faster rooting and plant health, I would recommend all new to gardening to use this solution as per direction on all newly planted items.Helpful Reply
