Don't know how anyone can say "pennies are useless". Take 100 of them and you have a dollar. I've taken all the pennies I've gotten in the past few years, put them in a jug, and now I have about $100.00! Haven't sorted out the older ones yet......They DO add up!! -
wow-how cool! -
That's cool. I'm stealing the idea for a coffee table. -
I think you're on to something Leigh. A bistro table would look pretty darn cool with this project. -
Well, you already know I'm obsessed with your penny countertop, but I'll tell ya again....I love it!!!!! -
So happy to see you and your counters getting some spotlight time :) They are fabulous!! -
I love this idea. Would the expoxy surface be safe for food prep surfaces? -
Kathy Lukins - I really have no idea, it's my bar area so it doesn't see any food. Sorry! -
thank you I will have to research it a bit. i bought a fixer a few years back....its still a fixer ($ & time) the kitchen could use some help, everything is plain white...white laminate counters, plain white cabinets (i mean the most plain generic kind with plastic "U" handles and pulls) and plain white plastic backsplash!!! thank you for sharing your experiences with this. its got gears turning in my knoggin. -
I did it, I did it!! We have a 1912 craftsman house here in Portland, and we did this in the main bathroom. I started with a template and made 12x12 mesh tiles glueing them with wellbound, and then placed the tile over thin set. I'm now at the part where I will lay the epoxy,,although can't seem to find anyone who carries it?? It looks awesome! -
Oops, forget to mention i grouted them with the chocolate truffle color. -
What a great idea for a countertop, and also a conversation piece. -
Ashley @ Domestic Imperfection How is it holding up? It is very unique and pretty! I really do Love unusual.Did you clean the pennies first to make them shiny, or...? KMS Woodworks Just ONE 6 PACK???? -
Douglas C What a good idea! A very practical idea for souvenirs, without all those little statues etc...I can see that on a coffee table, kitchen counter, even a wall mounted framed piece! I will keep this in mind. I have stopped buying souvenirs...sometimes I just get post cards, but even they get stuck somewhere and never seen again. This is such a good idea, I wish I had known about it years ago. -
This would work great Bernice H for souvenir pin on buttons like the ones that say I love New York. Post cards placed at various angles from all your trips would look cool on a folding table. -
Bernice H a six plus a bottle of wine or two for the mrs. -
I did the same thing but with beer bottle tops and used heavy shellac sealer over the top. It seemed like a great idea at the time plus it was a great excuse to buy a ton of different beers and try them. I just wish I could remember most of it... -
I've seen this done on a powder room floor! Gorgeous! -
What a unique idea! Love the results! BERNICE, my grandmother put several old cards in frames & hung them. I now have them on display in my home - one card is from 1908! Anyway, gave me the idea to put Christmas cards that I really like in frames and display them at Christmas time. Course I also get carried away and remove ALL pictures from the walls and put up Santa pictures. I'll see if I can find some to post later. -
For those who want to know where to buy epoxy, if you have a Hobby Lobby, they sell it..... and don't forget to get their 40% off coupon which is online every week. -
Love love love this idea!

The most coin dealers around here (Virginia Beach) will give for pennies is 2 cents each...including wheats! I even have some in albums and they weren't interested. I may end up posting the albums on eBay...and re-do the tops of my end tables in pennies! LOL -
Would these hold up to the outdoors like on a table or potting bench shelf? -
Kelly S if these were embedded in a "bar top" 2 part poured mix It would hold up very well to rain and moisture. The number one "killer" of most outdoor finishes is the degradation due to UV light. If your potting bench were in a somewhat light protected area it would fair even better. -
KMS Woodworks , thanks for the info. I don't know yet where I'm putting it. I have to build it first and then see where it fits. I want to make one using an old kitchen sink like several ones here on HT. Don't have a plan yet so nothing is gathered. A potting bench hooked up to the outside tap so I can rinse of the harvested veggies and put the water back on the garden is the main idea.
