SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on May 23, 2016Impact doors & windows are designed to handle wind borne debris normally seen during hurricanes & are required in high wind zone areas by the coast. For example the glass may have a piece of plastic in-between two sheets of glass - so while glass may shatter, it will still remain whole in the frame. Is it worth it in the tornado belt - it can be but it is something you would have to weigh yourself. Having said glass wont help with an EF4 or 5, but it can help prevent issues with items flying into the house causing roofs to be pulled off. With that said, for most areas I would probably recommend spending the money saved on a good shelter.Helpful Reply
