Use an old drawer to make an indoor planter box !
Line the bottom of your drawer
Hi there! So, I was thrifting the other day and came across a stack of little drawers that were too cute to pass up. I decided to bring one home and turn it into a planter. But I didn't want to ruin the wood by watering, so I decided to make it a faux planter instead.

First, I created a fake bottom for the drawer so the planter wouldn't get too heavy. I balled up newspaper and put it in the box.

Next, I traced the drawer onto a piece of scrap foam board I already had, and cut about a 1/2" inside the line to give me a piece that would fit snugly inside the box on top of the balled up newspaper.
Wash the pea gravel
I washed some pea gravel from the hardware store to get rid of the mud and grit. I did this in the sink, but first made sure that my colander's holes weren't big enough for any of the gravel to slip through.
Faux succulent planter
Finally, I poured the clean pea gravel on top of the fake bottom and nestled three succulent candles in it. This simple project adds lots of style to our coffee table, and the best part is, I don't have to water it!

If you like this project, I also made a succulent terrarium that looks just like one from Anthropologie.

Looks cute, however how do you dust it?.. I have a dish with rocks and candles and it is a pain to keep clean.

you only listed 3 items for this project, not listing the succulent candles. Where did u get the candles...the best part of the project?

I too would like to know where you got the succulent candles. I've seen this done with regular candles.

Great idea. I'm giggling away at the amount of crafter's who can't be left the responsibility of looking after LIVE plants. We seem to be a community of plant killers. Bring on the realistic fake plants/candles.
